We headed up late Friday avo with Andrew and Meaghan, towing their van. Kiwi, Ken & Keeri met us at the barge. Kiwi bought a good tralier of wood for the weekend.
Jim,Chris & Eddy were already up there set up next to the Surfriders tent.
Rod bogged the 4wd as soon as he hit the beach and was towed out by a 4wd tourist bus.
Rod and the others did the clean up along the Leshia track through to Rainbow beach.I had a sore hip so I just supervised from my banana lounge.
We drove back around to the lighthouse after morning tea on the beach. Some were energetic and did the walk up to the lighthouse while we refreshments and nibbly's on the beach.
In the avo around 3 we wandered over with our chairs to the Surf Riders tent for a talk on the beach enviroment and drawings of the raffle. Meaghan won 3 prizes and is donating 1 of them for our club christmas raffle . Thankyou Meaghan. They also put on a bq and live music which was great.
Sunday we packed up and headed down the beach to near the cutting where you first drive onto the beach as it was getting near high tide. We stayed on the beach for awhile as the weather was so nice.
Thanks everyone for a great weekend.
Thursday 29 April Cania Gorge trip report.
Travelling through the towns of Kilkevan ,Eidsvold & Monto, Eddie & Christine arrived at the Cania Retreat Caravan Park around 2pm. Myself & Brad at 4pm, followed by Ken & Kerry at 7.30 that evening. Friday morning we all did a 5.6km walk to Giants chair & Fern tree pools. After lunch Ken & Kerry , Sam & Brad took a drive to the dam ,whilst Chis & Eddie hunted for firewood. When we returned Paul - our trip leader ,old Peter & Kris with Dayne had arrived. Followed later at 5pm by Kevin & Lorraine. The fire was lit ,a couple of camp oven cooking tea , a few beers & some stories were told. Saturday morning , and another walk was to be had , this time to Overhanging rock ,Dripping rock ,King orchid crevice & two storey rock. Lunch plus a swim ,and another short walk to take a look at the Shamrock mine. Once again a few more ales & stories around another good campfire. Sunday morning we left camp at 8am with six cars in total . Headed for Kroombit Tops. Quite a misty drive ,three emus were sited,& a bustard bird, wild pigs. Arrived at the lookout for morning tea after driving for two hours . We all had phone reception , and realised good weekend for being away as Sunshine Coast was bucketing down. Stopped at "bomber" crash site , very interesting. Onto "the wall" for our lunch stop. Finished off the bomber loop drive, then headed back along the Razorback Road, toward Biloela. Paul was our trip leader. This track took us along dry creek beds & steep rocky terrain with some fabulous views . We also ended up with two extra vehicles whom travelled this stretch with us.
Arriving in Biloela at 4.30 pm to air back up , got back to camp around 5.45pm . With an amazing sunset. A long day but a really good drive .
By the way old Peter got a better offer & got himself an invite by a South African couple ,for a roast dinner .... Lol good on him.
Monday morning ,pack up and head back home to the Coast .
This was an excellent long weekend camp ,great trip leading ,thanks Paul & really good company .
