Trip Report Curra Ridge Camp Weekend
A new adventure was finally upon us. First to arrive was sandy and Kiwi. Oops i mean Richard 😁 most of us discovered this on the weekend. Following close behind by Deno and myself. Jim arrived a little while after. Followed by Lorraine and Kev, Frank. Little Rod, Heather and Trev on Saturday i think that was all. We had a great night Friday around a nice big fire that we, well me had fun collecting and towing to the fire pit. Weather was awesome for it cooled down just enough to enjoy a fire.
Saturday morning 3 members, Steve Dale and Jenni from the Cooloolah Club arrived to show us around the forest. After a few missed turns we got to the track they wanted to take us. Which turned out to be a event full track a couple of good creek beds needing good line picking. Frank and Kev both needing a little help on one coming in. Mainly in fairness to them 8 or so 4wds going first wetting the track to reduce traction.
Then we arrived to THE HILL Steve from Cooloola 4wd club leading started to go up. Got about half 20 meters and stopped. We assessed the track when we all got together. Verdict was a na we not going there. Unfortunately the last big rain had created a massive rut. So we did a return trip the way we came. This direction became a little more eventful for most of us. With Jim doing a great job of log building the creek bed and spotting.
About half the cars did it on there own with no recovering but a few more needed assistance and yes little Rod, the Hilux once again needed assistance from what you call them things. A Nissan Patrol. Thanks mate. We got out of that track said good buys to Dale and Jenni. Steve followed us back to camp for lunch.
We then headed out into Curra state forest through the property for a recky. Went to check out a track suggested to us by Deb the owner.
Turned out to be a dam great track a nice rock step down section ans a rocky hill climb or to and finally came out near were we finshed the morning drive. We said goodbye and thanks to Steve.
Headed back to camp for a refreshments or two. Collected more wood. Relaxed around the fire again for another great evening. Once again our host Debra came down with the multitude of friendly chair stealing dogs. You get out they get in. Cheeky buggers.
Sunday morning after breakfast little Rod and Heather. Kev and Lorraine left early and the rest off us took of for another adventure reckon of un known tracks. Nothing technical that morning but lots of nice bush drives discovered. We had several tree removals of track clearing and finaly around 1 pm got back to camp. Unfortunately the only bit of drizzel of rain all weekend happened that morning. We all packed up and said our goodbyes. Thanks again all who attended and put up with me leading the trips. There are still plenty more tracks for us to discover. So we will be back. Cheers Rob
