The weekend started early for the two Kevies, Julie and Lorraine who took advantage of the great weather and headed to our bay side camp on Wednesday, follow on Thursday by Frank, Little Rod & Heather, new members Ian & Cassie, then Karen, JJ and myself as the night fell.
After setting up camp we settled in for a few refreshments and a quiet night.
Friday morning we were joined by Kieran & Grace and being Australia Day we waved our flags with pride and after breakfast headed to the point for a relaxing swim and to watch any antics in the soft sand on the way to the Fraser Barge.
After a few hours and with the tide coming in we headed back to camp for lunch, then spent the afternoon relaxing with a few cold ones in the shallow water of the bay. Barry & Steff arrived and after they set up joined us in the water with their blow up thongs, which were quite entertaining as the wind turned them into kites.
Friday’s dinner was a treat. Julie had been slow cooking the leftover meat from our Christmas party, and created Pulled Pork and Beef Rolls with Coleslaw. We had so much we had a young group of campers join us for a feed. Thanks Julie
With dinner over we sat around the fire and had a great night of laughing and even an arm wrestle. A great Aussie Day was had by all.
Saturday after breakfast we headed off for a drive around the circuit of the Pettigrew & Kingsbore tracks only to find you now needed permits, so we headed to the pump station for a cool swim in the fresh water creek. After this some members headed back to town while the rest of us paid the permit fee and headed down the track. It was a very scenic drive with the more interesting sections now closed off and the hill climb repaired with rubber matting making for an easy drive. We stopped for lunch before completing the full circuit of 40ks and then headed back to camp for a relaxing swim and refreshments.
Sunday morning saw the weather change and after breakfast we decided to pack up and head home.
Thank you to all who attended for making this another great Aussie Day weekend.
