DI Beach Clean Up Oct 7-9th 2016
Friday: Jim, Rod Heather & Amy, Andrew & Meaghan, Mick W, Derek & Mary met at the barge at 8am for our trip across. Everyone went through the cutting with little incidents. The beach was torn up and we knew this was not going to be an easy trip to camp. Off we headed...
Derek, Andrew & Rod bogged all within 10 mins. Jim raced back to Derek, Mick helped Andrew and Rod was about 2kms ahead of us so had to wait. Derek free then Jim had to hook up to Mick because the Cruiser and Van were on a nasty angle heading towards the water and it was pulling Mick down with us. Everyone finally on the top side of the sand again and headed to camp. Was definetly the worst beach drive I have ever encountered (white knuckled on the grab bar the whole way).
Everyone set up and relaxing and Kiwi turned up with yet another trailer load of wood :). WTG Wood Master. Nice day chatting on the beach and sitting back watching the whales swim by ( I missed this as had a nanna nap for 3 hours).
Andrew headed down to cutting to help Chris & Julia on the first ever beach drive and they did well and got back to camp without any issues and everyone had dinner then Kerri & Ken turned up and set up with some issues with parts of tent missing. Early night for most to be fresh for the bid day ahead.
Saturday: 9am our visitors Jo & Stan turned up to help with the clean up. Off we headed to do Leasha Track and Bayside. On the track waiting for us was a Red Belly Black Snake so made it a bit nervous having to go in to long grass to check for rubbish. Was a lot cleaner than it was in March which is a great thing as people might finally be learning to take their rubbish home with them. We headed around to point for lunch and a swim and it was pretty busy up there so we just sat on the low tide island.
Headed back to camp at 1.30 so bags could be dropped off by 2.30 and then get ready for the afternoon at the Surf Riders area. Yummy sausages provided and they had some great fun for the children to partake in and all the adults were having a ball cheering the children on.
Well Trivia time. We did really well but our tally sheet wasn't handed in and once they realised they didn't get our scores they gave us 2nd place as 1st place had already collected their prizes. Still a great prize which is donated back to the club for our Christmas Party.
After everything finalised at Surf Riders we all went back to camp for talks around the BLAZING fire. 1 by 1 everyone headed to bed because we all had to be up early and pack up for the low tide.
Sunday: All packed up by 7.30am and everyone on the beach by 8 and heading home. Jim went via Cooloola Way for a reckie and rest of us on the beach. Was a great drive back with the beach being what we were use to (complete 180 to what it was Friday Morn). At the cutting a Van was stuck so we waited for them to be recovered but a few young ones thought they could be heroes and race around us and get past the van and up the cutting.. Well didn't work out to well for them as they found themselves stuck. ( had to laugh) Was a long line up for Barge but we were all over by 9.30.
Was a fantastic weekend and can't wait for the next one.
